Overnight Oats
If you’re a busy mom like me, breakfast can feel like the first thing to slip—especially on those mornings when the baby needs you right now. That’s why I love overnight oats: you prep them the night before when the house is calm, and in the morning you have a creamy, filling breakfast ready to grab from the fridge.
The best part? This base recipe is simple, customizable, and actually tastes good (because if I don’t love it, I’m not finishing it either).
Why you’ll love these overnight oats
- Make-ahead friendly: 5 minutes of prep the night before.
- No cooking needed: the fridge does all the work.
- Creamy + satisfying: perfect for busy mornings.
- Easy to customize: swap the milk, sweetener, or spices to fit your mood or season.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup almond milk (or any milk you prefer)
- 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
- 1 tbsp brown sugar (use less if you prefer)
- 1 tsp vanilla (I prefer alcohol-free)
- 1 tsp cinnamon
How to make quick overnight oats
- Choose your container.
Use a jar or container with a lid (mason jars work great). - Mix the liquid ingredients.
Add the milk, brown sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon. Stir until the sugar dissolves. - Add the oats.
Pour in the oats and stir again. - Seal + chill.
Put the lid on, give it a shake, and refrigerate overnight (or at least 4 hours). - Serve.
In the morning, stir and enjoy straight from the jar—or add toppings (see ideas below).
Tips + easy variations
- Shortcut method: You can absolutely add everything at once and shake it up. I just enjoy mixing the seasonings into the milk first.
- Seasonal spice swap: Replace cinnamon with pumpkin pie spice or apple pie spice when fall is approaching.
- Make it extra filling: Add a spoonful of chia seeds, Greek yogurt, or nut butter.
- Topping ideas: fresh berries, sliced banana, chopped nuts, chocolate chips, or a drizzle of honey.
